DENTAL TECHNOLOGY

Technology

Technology within the dental practice is expanding rapidly and it's often hard for us to know which are gimmicks and which are not. The equipment that we choose to use in our practice has been researched and tested by many clinicians. The benefits have been proven.

Microscope - One of the most important aspects of dental care at Broadway Dental Sydney is early detection and treatment of potential problems. We utilise the leading microscopic technology as part of your preventive and treatment care. This enables our team to precisely examine your teeth and perform operations at a microscopic level.

When using high magnification during procedures, we are able to see microscopic details that are impossible to visualise with the naked eye or loupes (magnification glasses). Microscopic dentistry enables a clinical precision in dental care that is exceptional in every respect.

CariFree™; detecting dental caries - The term dental caries is more commonly known as tooth decay and it's tooth decay which leads to the occurrence of cavities. The latest development in the fight against decay is the CariFree™ system, a simple, non-invasive screening and treatment programme.

Even though you brush and floss daily, limit sugary foods and drinks and regularly visit our team for check-ups, you might still be at risk of developing cavities. This is due to cavities being a consequence of a bacterial infection that is now known to be the result of a biofilm disease.

What is biofilm disease? - Oral biofilm is a thin film which coats and usually protects the teeth. Decay is caused by a bacterial infection in this biofilm. Twenty-five years of scientific research has shown there can be several destructive bacteria that live and grow in normal, healthy oral biofilm.

When these bacteria reach high levels, they cause a bacterial infection known as biofilm disease. Tooth decay and cavities are symptoms of a diseased oral biofilm, which can lead to the need for restorative treatments including dental bridges and crowns, root canal treatment or may ultimately end with tooth loss. Brushing, flossing and professional cleaning appointments are all important for maintaining good oral health, but they alone prevent biofilm disease from occurring.

A non-invasive test suitable for both adults and children can determine if you are in a high-risk category. A swab taken from several teeth is placed in a hand-held meter, 15 seconds later we have your result. If your result is positive another sample may be taken and depending on the final result a tailored treatment plan will be developed.

Intra Oral Camera - Using an intra oral camera we are able to see exactly what is happening in your mouth. When the camera is being used inside your mouth, the images will be shown on a screen so we can explain areas that we are looking at, any problems and what treatment is required.

Digital Radiography - With digital radiography an X-ray becomes an instant procedure. The radiation levels are kept at a minimum and we are able to view smaller areas with the use of the latest computer technology.

OPG Panoramic digital xray - Taking only a few seconds, the OPG machine will scan your entire profile by traveling in a semi-circle motion around your face. This will produce a full panoramic image of your mouth. This detailed x-ray is used for treatment planning for periodontal disease, complicated restorative procedures, dental implants and removal of wisdom teeth. Having an OPG machine within our practice allows us to provide you with a more convenient appointment as you no longer have to be referred to a radiography centre for X-rays.
